Stay Cool and Hydrated: Surviving Summer in Osaka
Apollo Properties Osaka Blog
Summer in Osaka can be intense, especially for expats who aren’t used to the hot and humid Japanese climate. From late June through September, temperatures often climb above 30°C (86°F), with humidity making it feel even hotter. Staying hydrated and taking care of your body is essential to enjoy the season safely and comfortably.
Why Hydration Matters
In high humidity, your body sweats more but it’s harder for that sweat to evaporate and cool you down. This increases the risk of dehydration and heatstroke. Drinking plenty of water throughout the day—even when you’re not feeling thirsty—is key. Keep a reusable water bottle with you at all times. Many convenience stores and vending machines also sell drinks with electrolytes like Pocari Sweat or Aquarius, which can be especially helpful on very hot days.
Smart Summer Habits
Try to avoid going out during the hottest part of the day, usually between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Wear light, breathable clothing, and don’t forget a hat or parasol to shield yourself from the sun. If you’re working or attending language school, take regular breaks and cool down indoors with air conditioning or a fan.
Where to Cool Off
Osaka has many great places to escape the heat. Shopping malls, cafes, libraries, and even convenience stores are great spots to cool down. And don’t forget to enjoy a summer treat like kakigōri (shaved ice) or cold udon noodles!
At Apollo Properties, we care about your well-being. Our apartments and share houses are equipped with air conditioning to help you stay comfortable all summer long. Stay safe, stay cool, and enjoy your Osaka summer experience!
